This factory was founded in 1952 by the Forges de la Providence to supply the blast furnaces there with coke. It covered an area of 17 hectares. In 1981, the factory was expanded with an additional oven battery to a total of 122 ovens. The production capacity at that time was 750 kton/year. Even in the late 1990s, innovations were carried out on the loading and unloading mechanisms of the ovens. In 2001, the company was taken over by Duferco and continued under the name Carsid. There were many serious complaints from the area regarding environmental pollution. Since they did not want to invest in adjustments, the coking plant closed, causing 250 people to lose their jobs. The last oven was emptied on January 9, 2008. Back
